By participating in this event, you agree to abide by this Code of Conduct. Thank you for helping to make this community safe and inclusive!

Goals

To protect attendees, speakers, and staff from harm in public spaces, online channels, and private conversations

To provide a mechanism for reporting, reviewing, and acting on violations of the Code of Conduct

To foster an environment of positive learning and a constructive, respectful exchange of ideas


How the code applies

The following actions, behaviors, or communications are not allowed:

  • Threats of violence or incitement of violence toward any individual or the group

  • Personal attacks that include offensive or discriminatory language, especially language related to gender, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental illness, neuro(a)typicality, physical appearance, body size, age, race, nationality, or religion

  • Deliberate misgendering or use of rejected names

  • Posting or display of sexually explicit or violent material

  • Inappropriate or unwelcome physical or sexual attention

  • Deliberate “outing” of any private aspect of a person’s identity without their consent 

  • Stalking online or in person 

  • Deliberate intimidation of any kind

  • Publication or display of private communication without consent (except as evidence of harassment and then only to the summit leadership committee)

  • Continued one-on-one communication after requests to cease

  • Advocating for, threatening to enact, or encouraging, any of the above behavior


Potential results for violations

Violations of this Code of Conduct can result in one or more of the following, not in any specific order:

  • A private or public warning

  • A ban and ejection from the event and/or online communities

  • A warning or report of actions to other communities at risk

  • No action (if the committee determines no violation actually occurred)


how to report

To file a report, please contact one of the event co-hosts and provide the information listed below. Reporting parties must include:

  • Identifying information about the alleged harasser

  • Reporter's name and contact information (harassed person’s name not required)

  • Time and date of incident

  • Place of incident

  • What happened 

  • Any other people who were involved or witnessed the incident


Who will handle a report

The Code of Conduct is enforced by the co-hosts and organizers of the event. Please don’t hesitate to promptly email or text one of us.

The committee will respect confidentiality requests. At the committee’s discretion, they may publicly name a person about whom they’ve received harassment complaints, or privately warn third parties about them, if they believe that doing so will increase the safety of others. The committee will not name reporting parties without their explicit consent.


What you can expect

  • Acknowledgement of your report within 1 hour

  • With the permission of the person reporting the incident, the committee might reach out to other community members for context

  • If your report includes a member of the committee, they will be recused

  • The committee will reach a decision as to how to act, report the decision to the original reporter, and report the decision publicly, if appropriate, to the community, withholding names if requested by the victim.

  • Appeals to the decision can be made to any committee member
